Midge Ure
MIDGE URE ist eine unumstrittene, absolute Pop-Ikone. Der in Schottland geborene Musiker begann seine Karriere in den 70ern mit der Band SLIK bei der Punk-Pop-Band THE RICH KIDS an. Nach diesem kurzen Gastspiel ersetzte er Gary Moore bei der U.S.- Tour der Rock-Heroen THIN LIZZY.
Mit Drummer Rusty Egan und dem Sänger Steve Strange gründete er die Band VISAGE. Diese Band war für den Hammersong „Fade To Grey“ verantwortlich, der 1981 übrigens # 1 der deutschen Singles-Charts war.
Sehr kurze Zeit später schloss sich MIDGE URE als Sänger und Gitarrist der New Wave Band ULTRAVOX an. Das Titelstück aus dem Album „Vienna“ schoss in den damals weltweit trendgebenden britischen Chart auf # 2. Weitere Ultravox-Hits waren u.a. „Dancing With Tears In My Eyes“, “Hymn”, “We Came To Dance” und “Reap The Wild Wind”.
1984 arbeitete MIDGE URE mit SIR BOB GELDOF an dem Hilfsprojekt BAND AID und schrieb und produzierte mit „Do They Know It’s Christmas“ einen der weltweit erfolgreichsten Popsongs überhaupt. # 1 in Great Britain, in den U.S.A., in Deutschland und und und.
MIDGE URE solo:
1985 entschloss sich MIDGE URE die Band ULTRAVOX zu verlassen und startete eine sehr erfolgreiche Solokarriere. „If I Was“ (vom Album „The Gift“) belegt 1985 (mal wieder) die # 1 in England. Dank der Swatch-Werbekampagne gelang ihm in den 90ern mit „Breathe“ nochmals ein weltweiter Hit!
Das 2008er Ablum “10” beinhaltet Midge’s eigene Interpretationen von Songs anderer Songwriter, die ihn durch seine Kindheit und sein Musikerleben begleitet und ihn musikalisch geprägt haben.

Whether it's during conception or birth, life or death. Music is there helping us on our way. We are not responsible for the songs we are subjected to when we are young but there is no doubt it puts us on our own individual roads of discovery and leads us all to our own personal musical world. These songs I have chosen to cover have left a profound mark on me throughout my youth and my intention in recording them was as a mark of respect to the writers. The great writers who gave me a fantastic musical education as well as an unatainable benchmark to try to reach as an aspiring songwriter. “
